Leadership and Governance: Highlights from the Second Day of FALGD at Saint Joseph Moukassa College

The second day of the Festival for Leadership and Governance Development (FALGD) at Saint Joseph Moukassa College in Koudougou was marked by a poignant moment of recognition and celebration. Under the auspices of Afrika Tomorrow, the college hosted an oratory contest that not only tested the eloquence of its participants but also their ability to inspire and lead through words. The winners were honored in a ceremony that underscored the event’s commitment to fostering leadership skills among the youth.

Dr. Jules Sampawendé Tapsoba, a Senior Economist, delivered a compelling address during the ceremony, emphasizing that « leadership is a process through which one influences their community to achieve a common goal. » His words resonated with the audience, particularly highlighting the role of young leaders in shaping the future of governance.

The day continued with the first panel discussion on political governance, focusing on the pressing question: « What political and institutional reforms can fulfill the aspirations of the Burkinabe youth? » This session brought together experts in governance to debate and discuss pathways to integrate the younger generation into the political process, ensuring their voices are heard and acted upon.

The discussions at FALGD have been illuminative and inspiring, offering a platform for critical engagement among youth, educators, and leaders. The emphasis has been consistently placed on the empowerment of young people to not only partake in democratic processes but to spearhead reforms. This aligns with the broader goals of enhancing democracy and effective governance in Burkina Faso, reflecting a shared commitment to nurturing a governance structure that is both responsive and inclusive.

As FALGD progresses, the insights garnered from these discussions are expected to influence local and national policies, encouraging a more participative governance framework. Congratulations to all the participants of the oratory contest and the organizers of FALGD for successfully fostering a dialogue that champions the democratic values and leadership potential of the Burkinabe youth.
